HW0

HW 0 material  (Note: this is just a test to see if I could distribute HW material via my Dropbox in addition to WebCT)

HW 0 (hand in via WebCT, due midnight Jan.14):
  • get the text book (Learning python, 3. ed., Mark Lutz, O'Reilly), read chapters 1 and 2
  • install python 2.6 (not 3.x!) on your PC/Mac (http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.6.6/)
  • start Idle (python editor included in your Python installation), open a Python Shell (in the Run menu), in the python shell to print out "Hello, world!", make a screenshot  (jpg prefered)
  • give us some info about you and your background here:     https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AmRCGxewfuugdFJWMGktQUkzb0NMZ0RnaXdzcHlJZ1E&hl=en
  • This is a public google spreadsheet (so don't enter anything sensitive/spam-attracting), everybody should be able to edit it, if not please request access and I'll manually put you on the can-edit list.
  • this will help me tailor the course better and give you some idea who/what the other students are.
  • download and install Wing IDE 101 the free/basic version of the Wingware Python Editor (ver. 4): http://wingware.com/downloads/wingide-101/4.0.0-b5/ . Wing 101 is a (I think) nicer editor than the standard Idle editor that includes a decent debugger.
